500-hour project update (Videos)

Posted by on March 5, 2014

My wings, aft fuselage and empennage are as complete as they can be until the whole aircraft comes together and rigging takes place. I decided this would be a good time to stop and look back at my progress so far. To do so I made several videos.

These first 2 short videos I made the first day of the project, back on November 18, 2013.

This video is a narrative of my progress made thus far, as well of a walkaround of everything that’s been completed.

The following video is pretty nifty… it’s a timelapse at 3600x normal speed of my work building the wings. The video begins about 60 hours into the wing build, right after having completed the left wing spar. I set up the camera and it began recording footage as I began the right wing spar. In this video is all of my work on the rest of the wings, including work on the ribs, control surfaces, skins, polishing, etc.  It ends yesterday, as I completed the right wing. 3600x speed means an hour of work passes with every second in the video.

Finally, here are a few more links to some other videos I’ve uploaded. This one is the same video as above, but 3x slower (1200x normal speed.)

This is a real-time video I took while riveting the right wing. Nothing exciting here, just sort of illustrating what the riveting process is like (in my workshop, anyway!) The sequence of work in the video is 1) remove clecoes from holes 2) insert rivets into holes 3) drive the rivets 4) celebrate

Now you’re all caught up with my progress!

If you just can’t get enough videos, here’s a link to all my other posts that have videos!
